What If...the Romans had never landed in Kent?

Why would St Paul's Cathedral have no dome?

Dr Christopher Burden-Strevens, Lecturer in Roman History in the Department of Classical and Archaeological Studies, has set the scene for a subject many of us struggle to envision – how Kent and the whole of Britain would look if the Romans had never invaded.

Dr Burden-Strevens reveals, exclusively with Kent Online, how our language would have been affected without Latin influence, why stunted architecture would see St Paul’s without a dome, how the port of Dover would be far less important, and why Kent would have been a destination for invaders from medieval Scandinavia to Nazi Germany.

This is the third in the University of Kent’s “What If?’ history features with the Kent Messenger, with more to come soon. You can read Dr Burden-Strevens’ piece here.
