Ollie Finlinson, an undergraduate student at the School of Arts, has had his short film Acid Rain selected by six international film festivals.

His post-apocalyptic film is set in a world where a mysterious illness wipes out most of the population and a dangerous new world emerges. The film follows the character Jim, who leaves the safety of a compound to navigate his way through the chaos with what could be humanity’s last hope – the cure. He is soon faced with the harsh realities of the outside world, which has descended into a dark, desolate and dangerous place. It may already be too late for humanity.

Ollie is currently in his final year studying Film with a Placement Year (BA Hons), and made the short film as an extra-curricular venture. The cast and crew of Acid Rain were predominantly assembled from fellow Kent students alongside two professional actors. Ollie also utilised contacts he made during his placement as a Creative Producer Intern at The Walt Disney Company to assist him with the post-production process.

The festivals that Acid Raid has been selected for include: Life-Off Sessions, Canterbury University Film Festival, FirstTime Filmmaker Sessions, The Monkey Bread Tree Film Awards, New Indie Film Festival, and the End of Days Film Festival in Orlando, where Ollie also won Best Student Film.

Ollie said: ‘I am delighted that Acid Rain has been selected by these important festivals and will be seen by audiences internationally. This project has been years in the making, and it is so gratifying to see it come to life and be recognised by the industry. I am looking forward to what the future holds.’
