Student Union

Many social activities are run by the Universities at Medway Students’ Association (UMSA), which represents all students at the shared Medway campus and is there to help ensure you will never be stuck for something to do when you put down your books.

Kent students are also members of the University of Kent student union, based at Canterbury campus.

UMSA

UMSA organises social activities and runs the student bar and the campus shop. Ultimate control of UMSA lies in the hands of the students –UMSA co-ordinates all of the Societies and Sports Clubs on campus as well as the democratic structures which enable students to have their voice heard to the Universities. UMSA also trains and supports Student Reps on each course to provide additional support and representation for students.

Events and activities

UMSA run 'fresher' and year-round socialising events, many of which are held in the lively on-campus bar, Coopers. Events include the yearly Summer Ball featuring celebrity DJs.

UMSA also organise sports teams, societies and a volunteer reward scheme. Details and photos are available on their official website and Facebook page (see right).

Advice centre

UMSA's Advice Centre offers free, confidential and impartial advice on a range of topics including academic, finance, immigration and housing.

Student representation

Executive Officers (elected each year by the student body) represent students in areas such as education, welfare and student activities. This ensures that students' opinions are considered during decision making.

Student Reps for each course are also trained and supported by UMSA, providing additional support and representation for students.

Awards

UMSA has won three major awards including the National Union of Students (NUS) Best Bar None award and accreditation from the NUS Services Sound Impact Scheme, which rewards good environmental practice.
