Visiting other libraries
SCONUL Access: visiting other academic libraries
The University of Kent participates in the SCONUL Access scheme, which allows reciprocal borrowing rights or reference access to members of participating higher education libraries in the UK. Whether you can have borrowing or reference-only access to other libraries depends on your status.
Visit the SCONUL Access website for full details, including a list of participating institutions.
Who is eligible?
All academic staff and students, but access and borrowing rights depend on status.
- Academic staff and research students - Band A
- Part-time, distance learning and placement students - Band B
- Taught postgraduates - Band C
- Full-time undergraduates - Band R (Reference only)
Not all participating Libraries offer all Bands.
How do I join?
Complete the request form at www.access.sconul.ac.uk and take it to the Templeman Library Loan Desk during staffed hours; staff will process your application and, if appropriate, issue you with a SCONUL Access card.
Take this card to the participating Library you wish to visit and they will provide you with an appropriate library card.
When visiting other libraries it is advisable to either telephone ahead or check their websites to check opening times, availability of stock, access arrangements, identification required and any other details before making your visit.
