Visiting other libraries

General information

If you are not based within travelling distance of Canterbury, or if the material you need is not held at the Templeman Library, you may find it necessary to join or visit another library closer to your home, or one that has the specialist material you wish to consult

A number of schemes are available that allow you to make use of other university, research, or local libraries. Some of them even extend borrowing rights. These schemes include:

  • SCONUL Access: a scheme allowing by students and academic staff of the university to participating UK university libraries
  • Invicta Access: a scheme allowing residents of Medway registered at Canterbury access to the Drill Hall Library at the Universities at Medway. Alternatively, material may also be requested between Canterbury, Tonbridge and Medway Library sites using the inter-site loan procedure
  • The British Library: follow the Reader Registration link to find out how to apply for a reader pass
  • Local Libraries: a list of local library services, with contact details

When you visit other libraries, we recommend that you always either telephone ahead or check their websites carefully to check opening times, availability of stock, access arrangements, identification required and any other details before making your visit.

You may be able to request material from other libraries through the Document Delivery Service.
