Borrowing and renewals
Students and staff can borrow items from the Tonbridge, Templeman or Drill Hall Library.
What you need
- a Kent IT account: get this by claiming your IT account online
- your University ID card (KentOne card).
Loan entitlements
Students can borrow 12 books. Ordinary Loan books can be borrowed for four weeks, but if recalled by another user you will be emailed and given 7 days notice to return the item. Follow the borrowers link in the Library catalogue to keep track of your current loans. More about borrowing
Renewing loans
An item can be renewed if another borrower has not reserved it:
- renew online: login to your Library account
- telephone: 01732 368 449
- email: ton-library@kent.ac.uk
Reserving items and inter-site loans
Items that the Library catalogue shows as 'On Loan' can be reserved. Items held at the Templeman Library and Drill Hall Library can be transferred to Tonbridge under the inter-site loan service.
Email reservation and inter-site loan requests to ton-library@kent.ac.uk, quoting the barcode number on your University ID card; reserving items online may cause delay so is not advised. Inter-site loan forms are available in the Library, or you can download a pdf version; hand in completed forms to a member of Library staff.
A daily courier service operates between Tonbridge and Canterbury so a book should arrive the next day if not out to another borrower.
Fines for late return
- Ordinary Loans and inter-library loans: 30p per day or part of a day
- One Week Loans: 50p per day or part of a day
- 3 Day Loans: 50p per day or part of a day
- Part Time Collection loans (for registered Part Time students): 50p per day
A courtesy email is sent to you to remind you when items are due back. Fine levels were set by the Students' Union to encourage free flow of material. The Library does not seek to profit from fines. More about fines
