Training to help you develop and build on your academic skills is available in a range of formats to support your learning and research.
Training for all students
Training workshops
Library training sessions and many other types of training are listed on the Student Skills and Learning Development site. Booking is essential for all sessions and can be completed online. The workshops are open to all, but are particularly aimed at undergraduate and taught postgraduate students.

The Student Learning Advisory Service (SLAS) provides guidance and information on all aspects of effective learning and study skills.

In addition to the training opportunities and resources available to all students, the following are specifically aimed at postgraduates:
Subject support
Contact your subject liaison librarian to arrange a one-to-one training session. Your subject liaison librarian can help you with:
- searching skills and strategies
- which databases for which subject areas
- citation searching
- research on the internet
- current awareness services for specific subject areas
- access to specialist collections for specific subjects (archives, research libraries, government publications)
Writing and research skills
Writing and research skills sessions specifically designed for the requirements of postgraduates are offered as part of the Skills Training Programme provided by the Graduate School.
