Law Clinic features on BBC TV programme ‘Inside Out’
Students and staff featured in a report about the work of the Kent Law Clinic on the most recent episode of the BBC television programme ‘Inside Out’.
The report showed students interacting with clients and discussing cases and aspects of the law as part of their involvement in the Clinic. In doing so, the report focused on one particular issue which had been bought to the attention of the Clinic; a potential case of unjust enrichment after the mistaken overpayment of rent by local nurse and mother Rebecca.
Rebecca bough the problem to the attention of the Clinic at one of the regular advice sessions held in the local community. Students are shown at the advice session, discussing the case the next day at the regular Clinic meeting, and then discussing the intricacies of the case as it progresses.
The Law Clinic is a multi-award winning legal service based within the law school which enables students to get involved in legal practice under the close supervision and guidance of qualified lawyers. It operates as a partnership between students, academics and solicitors and barristers in practice locally. It has two objects: to provide a public service for local people who need legal advice and representation but cannot afford to pay for it, and to enhance the education of students in the Kent Law School.
Inside Out is a regional BBC television programme, with each episode featuring two or three reports on issues of local interest. The Law Clinic featured in the South East edition of the programme which aired on BBC One at 6.30pm on Monday 30th November.
