Professor Nick Grief is to speak to a Parliamentary meeting arranged to brief MPs and peers about the Crime of Aggression and the possibility of its adoption into domestic law.
The Parliamentary meeting, taking place on Wednesday 22nd November, gives those in attendance the opportunity to better understand the Crime of Aggression as defined at Kampala in June 2010. The International Criminal Court (ICC), which can already try individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, will gain the ability to exercise jurisdiction over the crime in the coming years. The Parliamentary meeting has been arranged to raise awareness of the Crime of Aggression, and to ask whether it should be adopted into domestic law before its use by the ICC - incorporating it into the International Criminal Court Act 2001 which already incorporates the ICC crimes of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes.
Professor Nick Grief is the Director of Legal Studies at the University of Kent's Medway campus and practises at the Bar from Doughty Street Chambers. Professor Grief teaches Public International Law and European Law at Kent, and his research interests include the domestic implications of international law. A respected and sought after legal commentator, Professor Grief has appeared as Counsel in a number of prominent and influential cases involving human rights and international law.
