Disability and Dyslexia Support Service

Dyslexia / Specific Learning Difficulties Support Tutors (Part-time)
£23.60 p/h

The Disability and Dyslexia Support Service at the University of Kent requires suitably qualified and experienced persons to provide hourly, study skills support sessions for students who have been formally assessed for and diagnosed with dyslexia , ADD and other specific learning difficulties, to facilitate independent learning.

The person appointed will have a proactive, practical approach to the provision of advice and support for individual students, with experience of working with students who have Specific Learning Difficulties. It is important that applicants should be highly self-motivated and well organised, and have a genuine commitment to equal opportunities.

We are looking for tutors who have:

  • A teaching qualification
  • A recognised specialist dyslexia support qualification, or working towards such a qualification.

Tutors must be available during the University terms. Please note these are different to school term dates.

Good interpersonal skills are essential, as the postholder will be offering advice and training to students with Specific Learning Difficulties. A professional attitude to work, clients and colleagues is essential at all times in this challenging post. A diplomatic personality is an asset. Other useful skills will include efficient record-keeping and effective use of I.T. packages including assistive software.
