Wireless auto-setup tool
The wireless auto-setup tool can be used to configure and update wireless network connections.
Before running the tool - do you have internet connection sharing enabled on your PC?
If you have enabled Internet Connection Sharing on your PC this must be turned off before you connect each time you use the Wireless Service. If it is not turned off, it prevents others from connecting, and may result in your connection being terminated at any time without notice.
How to disable internet connection sharing
- Click the Windows Orb/Start button (bottom left of screen), then Control Panel (if you see Pick a Category at the top of the window, click Switch to Classic View on the left of the window)
- Click Network and Sharing Center, then click Manage network connections from the list of options in the left-hand pane (in Windows XP just double-click Network Connections)
- Right-click the shared connection, and then click Properties. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Click the Sharing tab (Advanced tab in Windows XP), then untick the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box, and click OK.
Windows 7 and Vista users
Run the auto-setup tool, entering your Kent IT account username in this format when prompted: abc1@kent.ac.uk (replacing abc1 with your own details).
XP users
Follow these instructions before running the tool:
Click Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, then right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties:
- if you do not see a Wireless Networks tab at this point, do not run the auto-setup tool. If you do, it will disable any other wireless network connections on your PC, eg your home broadband service. You will need to contact the helpdesk for advice.
