Study Bedroom Service
Connecting from campus bedrooms to the Kent network and the Internet.
Get connected in Canterbury bedrooms
You can get online in your campus bedroom using a wired connection to the Study Bedroom network. This offers internet access (with some security restrictions), including access to email and resources on the Kent network such as printers. It is not possible to connect wirelessly from your bedroom; wireless access on campus is available in the social and teaching areas of each building.
To activate your connection
- check the system requirements to ensure you can connect.
- plug your red network cable into your computer and the network socket in the wall (it should be in your room), if not pick one up from your accommodation reception or the IT & Library Support Desk in the Templeman Library.
- open up a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox) and follow the on-screen instructions.
- you must answer 'yes' to the questions you are asked.
- Your computer needs to pass a 'security check' for anti-virus protection software and essential operating system updates: get a Health Check CD/DVD from the IT & Library Support Desk, Templeman library, or follow the advice on securing your PC.
- Finally, you need to set your computer name and join the SBS workgroup (pdf).
