Saving to the Kent network

Staff and students can save work to their own password-protected folder on the Kent network. This folder is accessible via the VPN or Wireless services as well as from staff and student PCs.

Backing up your work

Always save work within your folder on the Kent network. Network data can be restored from the overnight backup in the event of hardware failure.

It is advisable to save duplicate copies of important work in case of problems or lost disks:

  • save to portable devices such as CDs or memory sticks. Never put the only copy on these devices as they are easily lost. Saving a contacts file on the disk enables Kent helpdesk staff to contact the disk owner to return lost disks.
  • save large amounts of data to an external hard drive (available from most electronics retailers).
