Student PCs on campus

Open-access student PCs on campus can be accessed using a Kent IT account. Some academic schools/departments also offer PCs for use by their students only.

Screen breaks and unattended PCs

PCs found unattended by staff will be put onto Take a Break which automatically logs the user off after 20 minutes (and unsaved work is lost). Unattended personal items may be removed for security purposes.

How to take short breaks (without losing work)

Never leave your PC unattended without using the Take a Break utility: save your work then click the Take a Break padlock icon on the desktop. This locks the PC for 20 minutes then closes all programs and logs you out – any unsaved work will be lost.

It's a good idea to take a short break approximately every half an hour. A refreshed state after a break is often more receptive to learning and creativity. Breaks also reduce the risk of repetitive strain injuries and eye strain.
