Templeman Library Continued Service Improvement Programme
Continued Service Improvement Programme
A number of significant developments to the services and facilities in the Templeman Library have recently been implemented, and further developments are planned over the winter vacation and early 2012. The changes are being made in direct response to user feedback, ensuring that the Library continues to meet the needs of its many current users.
Some of the changes already made are detailed below:
Additional PCs and powerpoints
- During December 2011 and January 2012, Netbook, laptop and PC provision will be increased by 25% (100 new devices) and 150 extra double sockets will be installed (in addition to the 50 added last summer).
- Later in the spring term 2012 a pilot of new 'thin-client' laptops will be launched.
Making it easier to find books
- A major shelf tidying and lost book project has been completed, and £200,000 was secured to purchase extra copies of core texts, making it easier to locate and borrow these high-demand items.
- £38,000 has funded the purchase of 1,130 e-books, which can be simultaneously used by many people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- From spring 2012 the new reading list system will offer over 1,300 lists with links to the catalogue, Google books previews and content service.
More group and silent study spaces
- Silent, quiet and social zones were introduced in September 2011, making it easier for students to find an appropriate study space.
- At the same time, a refurbished Library cafe was opened, and the adjacent Social Learning Zone was expanded with 150 extra seats.
- More silent study desks (many with power) will be added in January 2012.
