SUMMARY:Carnage (15)
LOCATION:Cinema, The Gulbenkian, The University of Kent, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 7NB
DESCRIPTION: Adapted by Roman Polanski (Chinatown, Repulsion, The Pianist) and playwright Yasmina Reza from her own Tony award-winning play The God of Carnage, the new film from the veteran auteur is a brilliantly sustained one-scene comic drama which exposes the hypocrisy, double-thinking and charmlessness of the modern bourgeoisie.\n\nOscar-winners Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and Oscar nominee John C. Reilly star as two New York couples whose brief wrangle over their children’s quarrel becomes an epic, highbrow brawl. In real-time action we see the Cowans (Winslet and Waltz) visit the Brooklyn apartment of the Longstreets (Foster and Reilly) after the Longstreets’ son has hit theirs with a stick. Attempting to resolve the incident amicably, what starts (and almost ends) as a civilised meeting rapidly descends, via coffee and brandy, into very bad behaviour indeed; as each character drops their guard to reveal what they’re really thinking.\n\nhttp://www.kent.ac.uk/gulbenkian/Cinema/films/2012/march/2012-03-carnage.html
