If Michelle Williams’ recent turn in My Week With Marilyn whetted the appetite for a dose of the real Monroe, it doesn’t come much better than this. When Joe and Jerry (Curtis and Lemmon) witness a mob hit, they take flight and disguise themselves as Josephine and Daphne, playing in an all-female musical ensemble.
Trouble comes when they both fall for the band’s ukulele toting bombshell of a singer, Sugar Kane (Monroe), leading our cross-dressing heroes to try ever more elaborate ploys to win her heart. Ranked as the fifth greatest film ever made in Channel Four’s 100 Greatest Films Poll (2002), Some Like It Hot remains fresh and hilarious and a total treat on the big screen.
