This workshop is intended for module convenors and academic teaching staff.
This is a hands-on workshop to demonstrate how to use the Talis system in order to create, manage and update online reading lists for your modules.
Learn how to:
•Create a list from scratch (for those new modules)
•Build a list structure
•Add books, chapters and articles to your list
•Edit and make changes to existing lists and items on lists
•Annotate lists, and leave instructions about the readings to your students or the Library
•Keep the library in the loop by using the "Request a Review" function
•Publish your list so that it is visible via your Moodle module
Talis presents a media-rich view of your reading list in your preferred format (e.g. weekly lectures/seminars, or arranged by topic), and with as much additional context and instruction as you wish to include. Catalogue availability is clearly displayed, and online access (e.g. to articles, ebooks and Google Book previews) enabled as appropriate.
Moodle will link to the system, so that your students can find your recommended readings for each module easily.
You can use Talis to help ensure that the Library is up-to-date and stocked with all your essential and recommended readings. You can leave instructions for the Library via Talis, and order books for your course. Use the "Request a Review" function to send a report on your list (new books, changes and special instructions) to the Library for actioning: make sure your recommended books are all in stock for the teaching term when they are needed.
Please bring a module reading list with you to the workshop so that you have something to work from.
