Settle in

To help you settle in when you arrive, we hold a special Welcome Week in September. This takes place in the week before lectures and seminars begin so you have time to relax and meet other people. The week includes a greeting at the airport, a welcome dinner, and trips to local attractions.

If you arrive in January or April, we hold social events to help you settle in. We can also book a taxi for you: http://www.kent.ac.uk/gettingstarted/international/airports/taxi/

Our Getting Started Guide for January 2013 has helpful information about life at Kent, and we've also put together these helpful guides:

Safety and security

We take our students' safety very seriously at Kent and strive to ensure that all of our students feel safe and happy during their studies. The Safety, Health and Environment Unit have put together a Safety Handbook for students. We would also encourage students to have a look at the British Council's safety guide 'Creating confidence - making sure that your time in the UK is safe and enjoyable'.

Canterbury

Although Canterbury has the lowest crime rate of any university city in the UK; we also provide a range of on-campus security services to ensure that our students feel as safe as possible. Campus Watch are the security on campus and they offer walking escorts and free personal attack alarms. They are located beside the banks on the campus. They can be contacted on the following numbers.

Please remember to prefix extension numbers by 01227 82 if calling from a mobile phone or off campus:

  • 3060 (Supervisor)
  • 3300 (Control Room)
  • 3333 (Emergencies Only)
