As an international student (non EU) you can work part-time during term time (up to 20 hours a week) and full time during the vacations provided that you have the correct stamp in your passport and have applied for entry clearance. However in order to apply for a visa you will need to show that you can support yourself during your studies without needing to work.

If you are an international student from outside the EU and you are coming to the end of your studies, you might be considering the possibility of staying on in the UK to work.
From April 2012, the UKBA is replacing the Tier 1 Post Study Work visa with a Tier 2 visa for UK graduates. These visas will enable students graduating in the UK to take up graduate level jobs paying a specified minimum salary. No further details are available at present.
