Safety
Resources
We take our students' safety very seriously at Kent and strive to ensure that all of our students feel safe and happy during their studies.
Although Canterbury has the lowest crime rate of any university city in the UK, we also provide a range of on-campus security services to ensure that our students feel as safe as possible. In addition to our security officers, CCTV cameras and the 24/7 security centre Campus Watch, we provide an escort service, which usually consists of being accompanied, walking, by a security officer, at any time of day or night (this service is particularly useful if you have been studying in the library or visiting friends in other parts of the campus late at night), and free personal attack alarms.
The University Nursing Service (UNS)
The University Nursing Service, based in Keynes College, offers facilities to all students at the University of Kent. It is open seven days a week during term-time from 7am until midnight and for emergencies after midnight.
The UNS is available to students for support, advice, treatment of minor illness and injury and contraceptive advice (including supply of emergency contraception). The service provides a drop-in facility, (that is, no appointment is necessary) where you can discuss health problems with staff and receive treatment where appropriate.
We also provide nursing care for up to two in-patients. You may be offered a bed in the UNS rooms if the doctor or nurse feels it is appropriate. The Nursing Service is run with an informal atmosphere, not like a hospital ward, so that if you do need to stay you have your own room.
