ICONS 2008

Kent Nigerian students attend International conference at The University of Hull

Further information on the ICONS 2008 conference.

A delegation of 20 University of Kent students, sponsored by the Kent International Office, attended an international conference for Nigerian students in the UK, which was held at the University of Hull on the weekend of 15 and 16 of March 2008. ICONS 2008, organised by the Xn Foundation, provided a platform for Nigerian students from universities in the UK to interact, and discuss a range of topics from visa and immigration to academic research and employment. Students were welcomed to the University of Hull by the Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Bill Bruce, and were welcomed to the city by the Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Carl Minns. The keynote speech was given by the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Ambassador Dozie Nwanna OON. Two Kent students - Bellema Ihua, a PhD student at Kent Business School, and Victor Nwadige, studying for an LLM in International Commercial Law - gave well received presentations.

Victor Nwadige, who was instrumental in getting the Kent delegation together, said that "the conference was a huge accomplishment which succeeded in creating a platform for Nigerian students in UKC to network and bond with their contemporaries from other UK universities. The conference organisers also applauded UKC for coming with the largest number of delegates!"
