Being the closest UK University to mainland Europe, The University of Kent has always welcomed Italian students. There were 70 students from Italy registered at the University of Kent in the 2006-2007 academic year.

The University is proud of its diverse international student population - around 26% of our total student population come from overseas.

At Kent we consider all applications on their individual merit and welcome students with a wide variety of qualifications and experience.

Foundation programme year entry requirements

We offer 1 year foundation programmes in Biological Sciences, Computer Systems Engineering, Electronic and Communications Engineering, Forensic Science, Management Science, Mathematics and Physics.

We also have a General Foundation Programme which has been designed especially for international students. This programme includes additional English language support and provides entry into the wide range of subjects in our Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, and certain degrees in our Faculty of Science, Technology and Medical Studies.

English Language Requirements: If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate your English language ability. The University of Kent accepts:

For General Foundation Programme:
  • IELTS 5.0 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in Reading and Writing
     Or
  • TOEFL 173 Computer-based / 500 Paper-based / 60 Internet-based.
  • We also accept WELT, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency, Cambridge Advanced Certificate and TEEP.

For Other Foundation Programmes:
  • IELTS 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in Reading and Writing

Undergraduate entry requirements (Bachelors courses)

For entry to year 1 of our undergraduate degree programmes, we usually require students from Italy to have completed their Diploma di Esame di Stato, normally with an average of at least 81/100 or better.

Offer levels vary depending on the course and some courses may state specific required subjects. 'Maths GCSE' may be required which means that students must achieve high scores in maths.

Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate diploma, European Baccalaureate or 'A' levels will also be considered for entry into the first year of an undergraduate degree programme.

Students who have taken the Diploma di Maturita to achieve a result of 49/60.

Second Year Entry

The University will consider students for 2nd year entry on an individual basis if they have successfully completed a course of academic study from a reputable institution of similar content and level to Year 1 of the relevant Kent degree.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements (Masters, MPhil and Doctorate courses)

The University considers students for postgraduate study who have completed the equivalent of a good UK honours degree from a reputable international institution. For students who have been to university in Italy, this is normally completion of the Laurea (or Bachelor in the new system) with an overall mark of at least 104/110.

MBA programme

The AMBA accredited MBA programme at Kent requires students to have achieved a good honours degree from a UK or other approved university. All applicants are also required to have at least 3 years managerial work experience. Exceptions can be considered for senior managers with more than 10 years work experience.

It is expected that evidence of progression and success in your career will be demonstrated on your CV.

GMAT is not currently an essential requirement for admission, however, you may be asked to take the GMAT so support your application. Acceptable GMAT scores are considered to be in the range of 580-620.

PhD

If you would like to pursue a PhD at Kent, you should visit the relevant department website to identify potential supervisors for your research and thesis. You are encouraged to then make direct contact with the appropriate academic to discuss your research proposal.

If the academic is interested in considering you as a PhD candidate, you will be required to submit a written research proposal for your PhD and may then subsequently be asked to complete the postgraduate application form.

Additional information

Visits to your country

The European Recruitment Officer visits Italy and we participate in the Word Grad Schools Tour fair in Milan every year. If you would like to come and meet with a representative from the University of Kent please check our visit schedule for this year.

Scholarships and funding

Tuition fee loan

European Union undergraduate students are entitled to apply for a tuition fee loan from the UK government to cover the entire cost of tuition fees. This is paid pack once you finish your course and once you are earning a certain amount. For more information, see here

Scholarships and bursaries

EU students are entitled to apply for our academic, music and sports scholarships (scholarships are awarded according to merit and excellence). See here. Bursaries are awarded according to family income and are only available to UK students.
