International Pathways

6 weeks, Brussels Block

The University of Kent at Brussels (UKB) offers a specially designed programme to prepare Brussels School of International Studies students who do not have English as a first language.

The six-week full-time course is delivered in Brussels through Kent International Pathways. With approximately 20 hours of classes per week, teaching includes lectures, seminars, workshops, independent research tasks and group and pair work.

The programme of study focuses on developing your English language and study skills so that you can meet the level of proficiency required for your chosen postgraduate programme of study at UKB. If you complete the Pre-sessional Course, and achieve a final grade which meets your condition of entry, you will not need to take any other IELTS or TOEFL examination.

Developing transferable skills

During the course the following key transferable skills will be developed:

  • Academic writing, in particular essay writing
  • Skills for academic reading
  • Listening to lectures and listening in the general academic environment
  • Using information and note-taking
  • Speaking in seminars and giving presentations
  • Critical thinking and UK Academic Culture
  • IT and using word-processing and presentation software

 

 

Entry requirements

6.0 IELTS (with a minimum of 6.0 in Reading and Writing) or 80 TOEFL IBT

or 6.5 IELTS (with a minimum of 6.5 in Reading and Writing) or 90 TOEFL IBT

Progression

Students will be working towards the achievement of the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 or 7.0 for the purposes of starting an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Please see your main programme of study offer letter for the exact details regarding your progression target.

Assessment

The assessments for this course will be comprised of coursework and final examination.
