Welcome to Statistics
In the recent RAE2008 we mantained the strong position claimed since RAE2001 by ranked eight among all the statistics groups in the country. This underlines our international research presence and the potential of our group.
The current Statistics group consists of 4 Professors, 1 Reader and 7 Lecturers. There are currently 2 post-doctoral members and 19 PhD students in various stages of progression. A recent photo of the group can be seen here.
Our research emphasis is on biological, medical, ecological, spatial and shape statistics, financial econometrics, genetics, risk and queuing theory, epidemic modelling and Bayesian non-parametric statistics.
Courses on bioinformatics, statistical genetics and statistical ecology provide our MSc in Statistics with a special emphasis, on which we continue to build through research students and grants. We actively seek to forge and consolidate links with other departments, such as Biosciences, DICE and Computing through research contacts and joint grant applications..
