The University of Kent, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 7NZ, T +44 (0)1227 764000
The University of Kent's Human Resources team is one of the departments actively taking part in the Green Impact project, a part of the Degrees Cooler programme, in conjunction with the National Union of Students (NUS) and the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC). This project challenges both academic and non-academic departments to be more environmentally aware by implementing simple changes to their general workplace.
In recognition of these positive steps to a greener culture at the University there is an awards scheme in place and we are pleased to announce that the Human Resources team achieved Bronze (Working Towards Silver) for our first year of implementation.
We have just been awarded Gold for 2013 and hope to keep up the hard work and positive attitude going forward.
Members of the Human Resources team are encouraged to live by the 5 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renew and Respect
We did it! HR is Good as Gold. The auditors were very impressed by the way in which the Human Resources department as a whole have engaged with Green Impact ideas. We look forward to receiving our award at the ceremony to be held on 15 April.
From 4 - 8 March the HR team held a Comic Relief Bake-Off and we were absolutely WOWed by everyone's enthusiasm for the cause. A wonderful £413.75 was raised over the week and this effort could translate into seven children living on the streets of Uganda attending school for 1 year and working towards a brighter future.
Congratulations to Kim on her brillaint chess cake creation that won first place:

We are coming to the end of our 2012/2013 sprint towards GOLD. Our audit will take place on the 6th of March and we encourage all of our staff members to wear green in support.
In our efforts to make people more conscious of the disposal of their office waste we have successfully removed 16 personal bins from our department. We have also had a larger green composting bin placed in the kitchen area and all staff have been made aware of where their nearest waste and recycling bins are within the department.
