Generic Profiles for Teaching & Scholarship Focused Roles

The University has recently produced a guidance document for Heads of Schools where it may be appropriate to discuss a change of contact type with a member of staff. To underpin this document we are publishing these generic role profiles so that staff can have an indication of the role and responsibilities that are expected at each level. It should be emphasised that given the diversity of the academic activities at Kent these role profiles are necessarily generic – and are in fact the National Academic role profiles which were agreed at a national and local level by universities and trade unions at the time of the Framework Agreement in 2006.

The Role Profiles for Teaching & Scholarship Focused Staff

Academic staff at Lecturer level (Grade 7/8) are expected to undertake work of the same level as those on in roles which are focused on teaching and research. Although academic staff on a teaching and scholarship contract will not be required to publish research for the purposes of the REF, their responsibilities will include maintaining up to date expertise in their subject area,  developing the curriculum, contributing to the student experience and taking a leading role in innovation in teaching and learning at the University. The following roles profiles build on the requirements at lecturer level:
