Family Friendly Policies
The University of Kent strives to make working for employees with or starting a family as easy as possible. To this end we have a number of established policies for family situations:
This policy sets out the provisions and rights for employees who are newly adopting a child. This includes the responsibility of the University to the employee in accordance with these rights and provisions

Oaks Day Nursery (Canterbury Campus):
The Oaks Nursery based at the Canterbury Campus is an excellent benefit for staff and a great asset to the University.
Places are offered on a first come first served basis and baby places are particularly limited so staff may wish to make contact as soon as their pregnancy is confirmed.
For more information or to reserve a place contact the Nursery Manager, telephone 01227 827676, email email@example.com.
There is no University run day nursery at the Medway Campus, however we recommend the Leapfrog Day Nursery based near the campus. For more information call 01634 890250.

The Kent Children & Families Information Service has a freephone helpline offering free, impartial information and advice about childcare, early education, parenting, family life and issues that affect young people up to the age of 20. You can also use the website to search for childcare in Kent.

The University participates in a childcare voucher scheme, through Busy Bees Benefits Limited, which is a simple straight forward and cost effective way to pay for childcare. Under the scheme part of your salary is ‘sacrificed’ in exchange for childcare vouchers. As the vouchers are non-taxable and exempt from national insurance contributions significant savings can be made on childcare costs. For further information please contact Theresa Harrington in Pay Office or Kate Kiernan in HR.
