References
All appointments are conditional on the receipt of references covering the last three years of employment, or for academic staff, three references which include the most recent or current employer.
References are obtained by HR. By request, the reference can be circulated to the panel only. For academic staff the references are automatically sent to the panel.
Academic: References are usually taken at interview stage and consist of three references, one of which must be from the candidate’s most recent/current employer.
Grades 7-9: References are not approached until the offer stage unless specifically requested by the panel. References must cover the last three years of employment.
Grades 1-6: References are not approached until the offer stage. Panels may ask for references to be contacted prior to the offer being made. Please note, however, referees are not legally required to provide a reference and when they do, the amount of time they take to reply to the request can be lengthy. This will inevitably affect the start date of the candidate.
