History undergraduate Haig Smith

Haig Smith, History BA

Haig Smith is in his second year studying History.

Kent is a good choice because History is an excellent School. The choice of modules is phenomenal - there's something like 70 to choose from, which helps you to find something you really want to specialise in ...What better place is there to study history with the Cathedral, Dover Castle, London and France close by?

[Lecturers] are very friendly and approachable. When you come to university, you're slightly terrified that they're all going to be eccentric characters, but they're not. They have a really good sense of humour and you can approach them on anything.

The single best experience so far was the trip last year to Metz to study the Maginot line and battlefields from the Franco-Prussian War. We had specialists on hand to help us along and point things out - it was just such a cracking experience, which I don't think you'd get anywhere else.

I would like to become a lecturer and never leave education... This summer, I'm hoping to get an internship in a museum, with the School's help
