You Never Can Tell

A Comedy by Benard Shaw

Mon 6 to Sat 11 Aug 7.30pm

Old Stagers

Description

One of Bernard Shaw’s most delightful and popular comedies, You Never Can Tell is about a mother and her two children who have returned from living abroad and are staying at a seaside hotel in Devon.

Up to this moment, the children have been kept in total ignorance of their father’s identity, and character.  The mother is anxious this state of affairs should continue.  But after a visit to the dentist her plan unravels as everyone concerned, including the Head Waiter of the Marine Hotel, confronts the consequences of the estranged father living in the same town and requiring the services of the same, young dentist.  After much hilarity, misunderstanding and confusion, the audience is left in no doubt that “you never can tell”.

In accordance with tradition, a topical musical revue (known as the Epilogue) follows the play on Friday and Saturday nights.  Friday night is Gala night, when there will be a 40-minute interval for picnickers.  Black Tie optional.
