‘Life is a Labyrinth in which we all find our own way’
Ascension grew up in Ribaforada, a small town in the Navarra community in the North of Spain. Whilst studying for an Alabaster Technician Course her work developed through a mastery of this medium, craftsmanship and the application of technology. Ascen moved to U.K. in 2002 to expand her horizons and life experience.
Since moving to the U.K. she has graduated with honours in Fine Art and completed postgraduate studies receiving a Master in the Arts by the University of Kent. Beside her practice, she has been the artist in residence to the "Journeys Through the Labyrinth" workshop led by Dr. Lauren Artress, which took place in September 2010 at the University. This series of paintings "Life is a Labyrinth" was created for this event.
Using an extended range of subtlety, impasto, impressions and mark making with a variety of mediums, each painting depicts the experience of the Labyrinth which is intended to stimulate relaxation, meditation and the knowledge of the human spirit.
“These works are also a metaphor reflecting my own journey through life and meditative practice. The creative process is long and absorbing, my aim is to transmit a sense of ambiguity, which may enable you to be the participant in your own journey through the experience of the labyrinth”.
