An exhibition of work by members of Hidden Talents, a joint Canterbury College And Kent & Medway NHS Partnership Trust venture.
A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT GROUP’S ART WORK
A month long art exhibition opens on Monday 1 March in the Crossover Gallery of Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Theatre which highlights the work of service users of Kent and Medway NHS Partnership Trust. Calling themselves Hidden Talents, the group has been meeting weekly at Canterbury College for its second academic year and this exhibition, entitled Behind The Scenes, is its fourth public display of work.
All told there will be 20 works on display, created by 13 different artists. Media include photography, pastel paintings and drawings. The Crossover Gallery can be found behind the auditorium and will be open until Monday 29 March during usual theatre opening hours.
Hidden Talents is a joint venture between the trust and the college, originating as a result of art therapist Joyce Armstrong working with service users to explore the links between art therapy and better mental health.
Joyce said: “Hidden Talents is based on the principles of providing non-judgemental, democratic space for creativity while meeting growing demands for social inclusion. Canterbury College welcomed the project with open arms, providing us with use of a studio, the support of a technician and some of the materials. Group members provide commitment, tolerance and support of each other and a body of diverse artistic works.”
