American In Paris

Description

Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron dazzle in Vincente Minelli’s (Meet Me In St. Louis) glorious classic musical.

Newly restored, it sees Kelly on sparkling form as Jerry Mulligan, a former G.I. in Paris to realise his dream of becoming an artist. Falling for shop girl Lise (Caron), he displeases both his wealthy backer Miro (Nina Foch) and Lise’s fiancée Henry (George Guétary), who just happens to be a friend of Jerry’s pianist pal Adam (Oscar Levant)...

And so the stage is set for a series of romantic escapades that form the framework for some of the finest musical sequences ever captured on film. Utterly ravishing.

“An exotically contrived romance.” 4 stars Peter Bradshaw, Guardian

“a gorgeous restoration [...] fresher than ever.” Geoffrey McNab, The Independent
