Director Frances Lea’s impressive debut, screened at the 2011 London Film Festival, casts its heady gaze on fruit pickers in Kent. Anna Madeley is Gillian, a seemingly carefree young woman who arrives out of nowhere to start work as a strawberry picker. Building friendships and starting a romance in this charming, itinerant community, it’s only when her sister appears that we discover what she was running from. Thoughtful and evocative.
“Tremendous... the Kent landscape is gorgeously evoked” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
“A terrific British debut” Jason Solomons, The Observer
“With an intelligent script and beguiling performances, this is My Summer of Love meets A Streetcar Named Desire” Neil Smith, Total Film
