Red Desert

Description

One of great Italian auteur Antonioni’s (L’Avventura, Blowup, The Passenger) most celebrated films, Red Desert casts a singular spell.

Antonioni’s longtime muse and lover Monica Vitti plays Giuliana, a disaffected wife and mother who wanders through a bleak industrial landscape, embarking on an affair with her husband’s colleague, against a series of stunning compositions. Antonioni’s first colour film, it uses a stark palette to personify feelings of contemporary isolation. A masterpiece.

“Almost half a century on, Red Desert remains a film of rare beauty and brooding erotic intensity.” Robbie Collin, The Telegraph

“Perhaps the most extraordinary and riveting film of Antonioni’s entire career” Geoff Andrew, Time Out
