The Wachowski brothers’ addictive, pre-millennial sci-fi fantasy remains as stylish and compelling as the day it was released. Keanu Reeves is the computer programmer doing a little hacking on the side as Neo when he encounters Morpheus, (Laurence Fishburne) who has some stunning news for him: none of this is real. Is Neo “The One” who can crack The Matrix, the virtual reality system being used to subdue the people? Wachowski’s darkly paranoiac film – with its still-stunning special effects – hasn’t dated a bit.
