The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

Description

Powell and Pressburger’s epic military romance traces the career of General Clive Candy (Roger Livesey). We first meet him in 1943, when he’s a bluff, middle-aged major; but then we revisit his youth in flashback as an impetuous soldier in the Boer War. Following his military career and slowly growing love for a teacher (Deborah Kerr) he meets in Berlin. What results is a tremendously powerful and moving film provoking meditations on conflict, friendship and ageing; a masterpiece of British cinema.

This glorious film gets more fascinating and moving each time it’s seen” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

“Arguably the finest British film made during the second world war” Philip French, The Observer

A wonderful salute to British decency and a touching portrait of a friendship that bridges national boundaries.” Alan Morrison, Empire Magazine
