Based on true events, this icy thriller is set in the notoriously brutal Bastøy Boys Home in Norway, as 17-year-old Erling arrives. A rumoured murderer, he immediately clashes with the facility's governor (Stellan Skarsgård) who believes harsh punishment is the only way to rehabilitate the Home's inmates.
But he hasn't reckoned on Erling's spirit. Rousing his fellow prisoners out of their resigned existence, Erling encourages them to fight anew for their rights.
