Kent Emergency Student Loan (KESL)
The Kent Emergency Student Loan has replaced the Masters Loan from 1st September 2009.
The Kent Emergency Student Loan is available to all students studying at the University of Kent.
The purpose of the loan is to aid students suffering financial difficulties who need help with their immediate essential living costs (food, travel etc not accommodation).
- Kent Emergency Student Loans are discretionary and not given on demand.
- They are loans granted when other sources of funding have been exhausted.
- They are intended to cover essential expenses such as food, for a limited period of time, to allow time for your financial situation to improve.
- Only one outstanding Kent Emergency Student Loan loan is allowable at any one time and this will not normally exceed £240.
- If your application is accepted it will normally take 2 working days for Finance to issue a cheque.
- Some cash may be available instantly (up to a maximum of £60).
- Kent Emergency Student Loans are loans and must be repaid.
- If a Kent Emergency Student Loan or any other debt owed to the University is outstanding your registration status may be reviewed. If this debt is still owed when you graduate then your results and certificate will be withheld as a result.
