Medway student finance guide 2009/10

Organise and plan the payment of your tuition fees and any other fees that you may be required to pay to the University by following the links below.

University regulations governing the registration of students and the information contained within this guide sets out what the University expects of you in terms of the payment of fees.

Find out how much your tuition fees are;

As a student of the University you are required to pay tuition fees for each year of your course.

Under the University regulations, tuition fees are due in full at the start of each academic year or at the start of your course, whichever is the later.

Tuition fee invoices for all courses will be emailed to your University email address.

If you are applying for funding from Student Finance England then please keep a copy of your financial notification to hand in case we need to refer to it.

How to pay

Payments can be made in full at the start of each academic year. If payment is received by 31st August 2009, a 2% early payment discount can be deducted from the payment.

The deadline for early payment discount has been extended until 7th September 2009

Making a payment
  • The University will accept bankers drafts and bank payments, however personal cheques will no longer be accepted.
  • Cash will only be accepted at the Medway Finance Section - please do not send cash by post.
  • Please ensure that your full name and student number are quoted on all payments.

Tuition fees can be paid in two equal instalments. The first payment is due on or before registration and the final payment is due by 1st December 2009

The instalment plan is available only for payment by debit/credit card through the University web payments system

If your fees are being paid by a sponsor (a private company or other organisation) not parents/relatives or Student Finance England, please print and complete the form from the finance website and return it to the Medway Finance Section with a confirmation letter from your sponsor on company/organisation headed paper.

Accommodation fees

From September 2009, all eligible undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Medway campus will be offered self-catered accommodation in our brand new state-of-the-art development at Liberty Quays.

The University will not be collecting payment for accommodation at Liberty Quays, please refer to your contract for further details on how to pay.

 

Other charges

Information

Other charges such as master’s fines, parking charges, late payment supplements or other miscellaneous charges will be added to your student account as they arise during the year. These charges must be settled in full immediately.

How to pay

A list of miscellaneous charges that may be added to your student account can be found on the finance website.

Payment for these charges are due immediately upon issue and can be paid at the Medway Finance Section in person by cash, debit/credit card or over the telephone by debit/credit card, by bank transfer or through the web payment system.

Financial difficulties

If at any stage during the year you experience any financial difficulties please call into the Income Office as soon as possible to discuss the matter with a member of staff.

Other financial information

Loyalty discount

The University is pleased to announce that it has decided to recognise the family and personal loyalty shown by registration on multiple degrees by siblings, children of alumni, husband and wife studying together or alumni studying for additional degrees when privately funded.

A discount of 10% of the first year’s tuition fee will be allowed to those students who meet the criteria set out on the finance website.

Non-payment of fees

If fees are not paid within the given timeframes, students will be deregistered and will be deemed withdrawn without any further opportunity to study, unless permitted to intermit by the department/faculty, and return at a later date. The deregistered student will have no recourse to University resources including accommodation and all email and access requirements.

Late payment supplements of 1.5% of the outstanding balance may be added to unpaid accounts and there will be a charge for declined instalment payments.

Withdrawing from your course

All students considering withdrawing from their course should discuss the matter with their departmental senior tutor or student advisor.

Students must then follow the proper withdrawal procedure through their department.

Student Finance England

Student Finance England will not pay your fees if you withdraw before 1 December. You are advised to speak to Student Finance England to discuss the financial implications when considering withdrawal from your course.

If you have paid your tuition fees, upon withdrawal, you may be entitled to a refund based on the following rules of withdrawal

The first four weeks of term one is considered as the ‘settling-in period’ and any student withdrawing within these four weeks will not be charged Tuition Fees for this period.

Following this period, fees will be reduced based on the number of months completed, pro-rated against the total months allocated to the year. This applies to all students and their sponsors.

Home overseas appeals

If you do not agree with your home/overseas status you will need to make an appeal against this decision.

For new students, who have not already been assessed or registered on their course, please contact Dr Phil Shore in the Information, Recruitment and Admissions Office.

If your home/overseas status has already been assessed by the University, please contact the Student Financial Aid Office.
