Charles Darwin and Kent
Find out more about Kent's commitment to honouring Darwin's 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of The Origin of Species.
In 2009 the University is celebrating Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his most famous work The Origin of Species. Darwin's work transformed the way we view our world and the way we study it, as well as proving controversial to religious organisations both in his time and now. However, none can deny the impact of his theories on the scientific world and the many benefits they have afforded us.
From public lectures to more specialised academic seminars, from a traditional birthday party to a film festival, the events of this anniversary year will celebrate Darwin and his work, and showcase Kent’s commitment to his immense intellectual legacy.
