Parking on Campus

Parking at the University is limited and is operated by a permit system. Click on the tab which best describes your status. Don't forget if you car share you could save money on the cost of a permit to park! Any person who brings a vehicle on to the University private land and car parks agrees to abide by the Regulations for the Management of Traffic at the University of Kent for Staff, Students and Other Persons. A permit to park must be displayed in the windscreen of your vehicle (Mon to Fri, 8am-5pm), and all vehicles must be parked in a marked bay, in accordance with the permit issued.

Parking enforcement is in operation 24hrs. Before applying for a permit to park or parking on University land please ensure you are familiar with the Infringements which a Parking Charge Notice may be issued or receive a sanction for non compliance as per the University  Regulations.

NEW FOR 2015/16 From 30 September 2015 staff and students are required to have a University of Kent parking permit to park at the Historic Dockyard.

Kent Staff

To apply for a permit to park

  • Choose which permit you need to purchase below and apply.
  • Accept that you will abide by the Regulations for the Management of Traffic and submit application.
  • Your permit will be posted to the School or Department you have stated within your application, once it has been processed.  (Please allow up to 5 working days).
  • If you require a permit before your application can be completed contact us.  If you are applying for a 2015/16 please note that these will be valid from 01 October 2015.

To renew your permit to park

  • Confirm your details and change any requirements. 
  • Accept that you will abide by the Regulations for the Management of Traffic and submit application.
  • Your permit will be posted to the School or Department you have stated within your application, once it has been processed.  (Please allow up to 5 working days).
  • If you require a permit before your application can be completed contact us.  If you are applying for a 2015/16 please note that these will be valid from 01 October 2015.

To change your vehicle details

  • Please update the information online
  • Return your old permit to Transport Team, Estates Department
  • Your permit will be posted to the School or Department you have stated within your application, once it has been processed. 

To replace a lost permit to park

  • If you have lost your permit to park, please contact the Transport Team, Estates Department.
  • There is a £5 administrative charge to print a new permit.

Payment for your permit to park

  • Payment for a permit will be covered by monthly deductions from salaries. Deductions will cease when staff leave the University or when staff advise the permit is no longer required. The deduction will be made in instalments of one twelfth of the annual charge in each of the months from October to September during which the permit is held and in each month concerned the scale charge will be determined by reference to the total gross pay in the month multiplied by twelve. If a permit commences or ends part way through a month, the deduction to be made for that month will be apportioned on a daily basis.
  • Sessional members of staff or staff paid by timesheet must pay at the time of collection of the permit. Payment can be made by cash or card with the Transport Team, Estates Department.

 

Permit Type Charge

Pink and Blue Zone Permit (valid until 30 September 2016)

  • Allows permit holders to park in Pink and Blue zone car parks.
  • Canterbury Campus: see map for location of car parks.
  • Medway Campus: Gillingham, Central Avenue, Mast Pond (Historic Dockyard) and Drill Hall car parks.
  • Staff working at the Historic Dockyard who have been agreed to have access to park within the Dockyard are required to apply for this permit.

  • In accordance with your salary.
  • Prices as below if purchased before 18 Janurary.
    £1 - £25000 £30 
    £25001 - £37000 £50
    £37001+ £75

Blue Zone Permit (valid until 30 September 2016)

  • Allows permit holders to park in Blue Zone car parks.
  • Canterbury Campus: see maps for location of car parks.
  • Medway Campus: Drill Hall and Mast Pond (Historic Dockyard) car parks.
  • Apply for permit here

 

  • £20 if purchased before 18 January.

Temporary Permit

  • For staff who want to use the car parks for a short period of time.
  • Valid for Pink and Blue zone car parks.
  • Canterbury Campus: see map for location of car parks.
  • Medway Campus: Gillingham, Central Avenue, Mast Pond (Historic Dockyard) and Drill Hall car parks.
  • Download application form and return to the Transport Team, Estates Department.

 

  • £4 per month to be paid on collection.

Day Permit (Occasional User Permit)

  • For staff who need to park on campus on an occasional basis. It is ideal for staff that usually commute by public transport, or walk or cycle to work.
  • Valid for Pink and Blue zone car parks.
  • Canterbury Campus: see map for location of car parks.
  • Medway Campus: Gillingham, Central Avenue, Mast Pond (Historic Dockyard) and Drill Hall car parks.
  • Download application form and return to the Transport Team, Estates Department.

 

  • 50p per day to be paid on collection.

Motorcycle Bay Permit

 

  • No charge.

Car Share Permit

  • This permit allows a team of car sharers who are travelling together full time to share the cost of a permit to park. Please see the Canterbury or Medway car share guidelines for further information.
  • If you wish to find someone to car share with please look at the University car share database www.5hare.co.uk.
  • Download application form and return to the Transport Team, Estates Department.

 

  • £15 per person to be paid on collection.

Accessible Bay Permit (Government Blue Badge Holders)

  • Government Blue Badge Holders can use all bays in all Pink and Blue zone car parks as well as accessible bays in any car park with the exception of reserved bays.
  • Display your Government Blue Badge until your Accessible Bay permit is available for you to collect.
  • Apply for permit online

 

  • No charge.

Temporary access to an Accessible Bay

  • The university acknowledges that there are occasions when employees may benefit from the provision of short term use of accessible bays to allow them to park closer to their place of work than the standard provisions allow. Staff who require access to this facility can apply to Occupational Health for a permit to be issued on a temporary basis.
