During Welcome Week (17 September-21 September) or Week 0 as it will appear on your timetables, we have a number of events organised to help our new students settle in and help you out wherever we can. You should attend all of these.
Monday 17 September, 10am-12pm, Keynes Lecture Theatre 1: 'Welcome to the School of English' talk
A chance to find out about the department, what we have going on and a bit about the modules you will be studying. It is a great opportunity to find out who's who and to discover who has won the Extreme Reading Competition.

Wednesday 19 September, 10am-12pm, Keynes Lecture Theatre 1: 'What Use is a Gun Against a Sky of Birds?'
Boundary-pushing and enthralling literature lecture - please could you all read The Birds by Daphne Du Maurier in time for the lecture and bring it with you.
Friday 21 September, 11am-1pm, Keynes Lecture Theatre 1: Guest Speaker Daljit Nagra
We are very lucky to have two-time Forward Prize winner, Daljit Nagra, coming to Kent to read from his work for our new students. This is a very special event not to be missed!
Friday 21 September, 3-5pm, Rutherford Lecture Theatre 1: Student Support Information Session
Your opportunity to find out about the support we offer to our students at Kent, including who to go to for various issues and lots of useful information relating to your course.
This talk will be followed by a social event which will take place in Rutherford Bar - a brilliant time to meet fellow students!
Also do not forget to enter our exciting Extreme Reading Competition, your opportunity to win all of the compulsory texts for Romanticism and Critical Theory. Entries to be sent to extremereading@kent.ac.uk by Wednesday 12 September.
