MA in Dickens and Victorian Culture

Entry requirements: A first or upper second class degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent).
English Language Proficiency for non-native speakers of English
Course requirements: Faculty and School Research Methods Programmes, three Modules taken from the subject core modules list and one module taken from any of the other English MA programmes. Your Dissertation will be on a subject related to Dickens and/or Victorian culture.
Based in Dickens's home county, this Kent MA programme focuses on Dickens' achievement as a writer in the context of the culture of his period.
Subject Core Modules:

  • EN876: Dickens and the Condition of Victorian England
  • EN877: ‘Dickens and Comedy’ explores Dickens's comic techniques within contemporary traditions of satire, farce and caricature. Not available in 2011/12.
  • EN835: 'Dickens, the Victorians, and the Body' explores the Victorians’ fascination with the body and its metaphors.
  • EN836: Dickens and the Material Culture of the Victorian Novel
