Dorothy Fryd

I am a writer and performance poet, whose poetry and fiction has been published by BRAND Literary Magazine, Forward Press, Momaya Press, Educating Kenyan Orphans, WordAid, ChapterOne Promotions, Leaf Books and Spilling Ink Review. I was awarded the title of Canterbury Poet of the Year in October 2009. I have performed my work at various venues in the UK, including The Barbican, The Roundhouse, RADA, The Poetry Café, Brixtongue Art Gallery, the Write to Ignite Hackney Word Festival and at Canterbury Art Festival.  At Kent, I will be teaching Modules EN319: Voice & Vision and CE166: Poetry. I also teach Performance Poetry and Creative Writing workshops in primary/secondary schools and work with Jacob Sam-La Rose on the Barbican Young Poets Project.

I am currently working toward my MPhil in Text and Practice.  My research topic is the Visual in Modern Poetry and Performance. I am interested in the ways visual concepts of writing are manifested on the page and the way writing is employed within performance to create a visual text based experience.
