Congratulations to our School of English 2012 Graduates!
17th July 2012
On Tuesday 10 July, our 2012 final year students went from being Graduands to Graduates. To celebrate the occasion the School of English held a drinks reception which was attended by a number of our Graduands, their friends and families and a number of School of English staff members. The event was held in Rutherford Dining Hall after a week of temperamental weather conditions, to ensure that our guests and scones stayed as dry as possible. However, the sun came out during the event and shone into the evening in time for the Graduation Ceremony which took place at 7.15pm.
During the Graduation Reception, there was also a short prize giving during which Peter Brown, the Head of School, gave a short speech congratulating the Graduands on their achievements and also presented prizes to three of our Stage 3 students. Prizes were awarded to Natalie Bradbeer for achieving the best Stage 3 results; Rebecca Lake for achieving the best Stage 3 Creative Writing results; and Joseph McCarthy who received the Bloomsbury Prize for achieving the best Stage 2 and Stage 3 marks for Creative Writing. A big well done to them and to all our Graduates!
Congratulations should be extended to any students who did joint honours with the School of English but graduated in other ceremonies. Also, to the following people:
Amy Lilwall who graduated from her MA in The Contemporary Novel: Practice as Research with her thesis entitled The Real Time Tree,
Dr Monica Mattfeld who graduated from her PhD in English with her thesis entitled Performing Horse-Men: English Masculinities and Nonhuman Animals, c.1618-1830,
Dr Jany Joseph who graduated from her PhD in Postcolonial Studies with her thesis entitled Writing Caribbean Migration,
Dr Blake Harris Brandes who graduated from his PhD in Text, Practice as Research with his thesis entitled The Poetics of Praxis: Analogy, Identity and Commitment in Hip-Hop Culture.
We hope everyone involved had a wonderful day. Well done on all of your fantastic achievements!
