School of English

Introduction

Graduates from the School of English at Kent are among the most employable in the U.K. 67% of our English students that graduated in 2011 had already found graduate-level employment or embarked upon postgraduate study within 6 months of graduation. The Guardian University Guide 2013 revealed that with this score, Kent's School of English was ranked in the top five departments from the 45 in our peer-group (along with Durham, Leeds, Cambridge and York) - a tremendous achievement!

Reassuring as they are, these statistics do not help you to figure out where you want to take your English degree and what the future holds for you. If you are confused or unsure about what you would like to do after University, do not fret as you are not the only one in this position! It is also important to realise that an English degree opens up a variety of career possibilities and we hope to help you find one that will suit you.

These webpages are designed to help you recognise the skills an English degree will encourage you to develop; to recognise competencies that employers find attractive; to be aware of what careers are out there for you and also, to help you to work out how to make these a reality.

The School of English, as well as the University's Careers and Employability Service, will be running a number of events, workshops and drop-in sessions to also aid you in realising your desired career path and where your degree can take you. Please keep an eye on your emails and on here for details about these.
