GET INVOLVED, GET REWARDED.
In its 2010-2011 pilot year, the Employability Points Scheme rewarded over 70 students with vouchers, work experience and internships through our sponsoring companies. Students gained work experience and internships in fields as diverse as Marketing, Radio, Human Resources, Consultancy and Architecture.
In the 2011-2012 scheme year, 282 students were offered rewards such as Leadership and Management training through Tesco, a fully-paid summer internship with the Canterbury Cathedral Trust, and a First Aid at Work qualification, to name just a few.
2012-2013 saw 111 sponsors offer students 324 rewards ranging from entertainment vouchers to Ipads, Kindles, and fully-paid internships with companies such as Coca Cola Enterprises and Enterprise Rent a Car.
The scheme is designed to present students with opportunities to enhance their transferable and life skills which are useful in any future career path. It is not designed to give specific industry knowledge or present students with future jobs (unlike schemes such as industry work placements which are usually part of a degree). The scheme mirrors a career path and is based upon the ‘real world of work’ which thrives on competition and self-motivation. It is open to any student and everyone can do as much or as little as they choose. The way EP points are collected is also not designed upon technical or industry specific knowledge (which is very much where your degree comes in), but rather on the softer/transferrable/life skills which are needed and valued by employers within any industry sector. However, as happens in real work, those who excel and really put themselves out and have the right attitude, will get ahead.
