Woody Allen’s (Manhattan, Annie Hall, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) latest is a richly enjoyable comedy with a superb ensemble cast – including the French First Lady Carla Bruni, no less, makes a cameo.
As if in a contemporary Henry James novel, a small group of Americans are in Paris together for a holiday: Gil (Owen Wilson – The Life Aquatic), a distracted screenwriter trying to finish his novel, his fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams – State of Play) and her wealthy, conservative parents. Lofty, romantic Gil and practical, fun-loving Inez have differences, which being in Paris seems to exacerbate. By chance, they meet Inez’s friend Paul (Michael Sheen – Frost/Nixon), whom Gil loathes, driving them even further apart.
